The day that I met the Texas Country Reporter crew on the highway to take them to Red River supplied us with a raw damp chill. Perfect weather for filming a Red River story! If worse came to worse the plans were to stop filming and make a mad dash for the
comforts of the cabin's porch. All day the clouds hung heavy overhead ... they threatened to open their bladders any minute. Fog and drizzle came and went and came again.
We finally got to eat about one o'clock. Della cooked red beans and cornbread for them and I served them my special "Power Bars" for desert. Although I tried to convince them, that the ingredient I used to make my Power Bars stick to your ribs was old fashioned oatmeal, they weren't convinced. The question — How much sawdust did you say you put in these — arose and invoked rolling laughter.
Along about mid-afternoon dark threatening clouds closed in on our Red River party and falling rain forced us inside. Special surprises presented themselves all day long ... just watch the story, and see for yourself!
