My elementary Red River education ended in 1959 when I graduated from Bonham High School and moved away from Red River. My formal Red River education began in 1986 when I started designing and building dogwood twig furniture. From 1986 until 2000 I spent 2 and 3 days a week (every week) on Red River gathering material. In 2000 I hung up my hammer and retired from furniture building to travel on Red River and write about her. June 1, 2001 my son and I launched the schooner and struck out for Fulton, Arkansas. I interviewed the people I met on the river and diligently studied Red River's Geography, her temperament and her place in nature. Fourteen days and 400-miles later we arrived at the mouth of Little River and pitched camp. We weathered a storm there and spent some time in Fulton, Arkansas. Along the way I added to a Red River education that I had spent a lifetime accumulating. I decided when I got home I wanted a Web Site and the name I chose for it was Red River Scholar. I don't hold a degree from a university but if I did I guess it would be a Master of Natures’ Ways degree, and I guess it would be from Natures’ Institute of Technology.
