Time marched on and after I graduated from BonhamHigh School, in 1959, I had other things on my mind; other than, take a float trip down Red River. I moved to Dallas, married and then moved my family back home to Bonham, Texas in 1969. I never told Della, my wife, that Red River was close to Bonham. Suddenly I found myself out of work. My floor maintenance business of 17 years went belly-up.
One Saturday afternoon in 1986, my wife and I went to Della's brother and wife in Brownsboro, Texas. They owned "COUNTRY ROADS" and they bought and sold primitives and pioneer furnishings. I saw some of their willow twig furniture and began to tell them about dogwood. They begged me to build some furniture from dogwood after they heard my dogwood net hoop story. I had never given up wanting to find a way to make a living from Red River. I think I have finally done it!
