As You Navigate Through The Survivor Section Clicking On The Pictures Will Reveal More Information
Surviving the hard, country-life after the depression required a person to make many of his own hand-tools. Dad called them U-Powered tools. Making good tools requires different woods be used, depending upon the job the tool is used for. Ash makes the best boat oars but doesn't make a good splitting wedge; Bois d' arc makes the best wedges. A wood that will really take a beating is elm and makes the best mauls to drive the splitting wedge with. Dogwood excels for net hoops, and willow is easily worked with and makes good box traps for catching birds. If a box trap is to be used to catch rabbits it needs to be heavier so we usually used a heavy wood like dogwood. You get the idea. We survived because we made things; our tools, our food and our fun. This survivor section will help you make the tools you need to survive.
