Serious Red River traveling dictated I have some protection from the sun, wind and rain. I designed a cover from rip-stop nylon and stretched it over the boat using tent poles. I named my creation the Schooner ... that's what she looked like to me. June 1, 2001 my son and I launched the schooner and struck out for Fulton, Arkansas. I interviewed the people I met on the river and diligently studied Red River's geography, her temperament and her place in nature. Fourteen days and 400 miles later we arrived at the mouth of Little River and pitched camp. We weathered a storm there and spent some time in Fulton, Arkansas. Along the way I added to a Red River education that I had spent a lifetime accumulating. I decided when I got home I wanted a Web Site and the name I chose for it was Red River Scholar. I don't hold a degree from a university but if I did I guess it would be a Master of Nature's Ways degree, and I guess it would be from Natures' Institute of Technology.
