The mind’s eye — without seeing a picture of my work — forms a preconceived idea that I work with conventional woods and build conventional furniture. In the eyes of some traditionalists my designs are more modern; of course they are … anything designed in our time is modern. What my designs are is timeless!
I follow a methodical process of gathering dogwood, sculpting it into hoops and then curing them before I start designing. After I cure the hoops I begin intertwining them intricately with each other. I make sure that the lines bend back on themselves and create a romantic, amazingly logical appearance. I am meticulous in the construction process, pre-drilling pilot holes and using screws. After I create a framework I allow more time for the hoops to cure before I finish.
Just as in nature, every stick in my designs is completely dependent on every other stick; this dependency is evident in all of my designs.
